Marion Relays
The Berries’ only win came in diving as the team of My Hellquist and Lexi Musselman took first place.
Logansport took third place with a total of 94 points, while Bluffton won it with 124, and Marion was second (102).
“This is a fun meet for the girls,” Price said. “[Saturday] was challenging due to additional sickness and injury, but again, there were girls that stepped up into positions, and made relays happen.
“Allison Shepler, Morgan Nelson and Hannah Jones did a great job filling in those positions. Musselman and Hellquist did a great job and finished 0.55 points ahead of the Marion Relay team. We have a busy week against Twin Lakes and Culver. We will keep working hard.”

PREP ROUNDUP: Zehner, Cain punch tickets to state swim meet

Pioneer girls fall to Logansport, then gain share of MWC title

Anonymous From Staff Reports Pharos-Tribune Sat Feb 05, 2011, 11:48 PM EST

Logansport senior Peyton Zehner is a perfect 4-for-4 in reaching the IHSAA Girls Swimming and Diving State Finals.
For the second straight year Zehner will be swimming in two events at state, as she won both the 100- and 200-yard freestyle events at the Warsaw Sectional on Saturday.
She won the 100 free in 55.23 seconds, which was more than a second faster than runner-up Andrea Richter of Columbia City. Zehner won the 200 free in 1:59.88, blitzing the rest of the field by over five seconds.
The state finals prelims will be held Friday beginning at 6 p.m. at the Indiana University Natatorium in Indianapolis.
Logan junior Katie Clements placed third in the 500 free and fourth in the 100 back. Junior My Hellquist placed fourth in diving to advance her to Tuesday’s Penn diving regional.
My scored over a 300 which is just phenomenal,” Logan coach Jon-Myckle Price said. “She worked so hard for that.”
Ashley Fawcett, Emily Clark, Clements and Zehner placed fourth in the 400 free relay. Fawcett, Zehner, Clements and Kait Wickersham were sixth in the 200 medley relay.
Fawcett placed eighth in both the 200 IM and 500 free.
The Berries finished sixth as a team.
“What a great day,” Price said. “I think champions are not always determined by how they perform but sometimes how they respond and recover. Thursday we swam and we were out of sorts. It wasn’t the kind of day you work so hard for. Other circumstances interrupted. [Saturday] we showed up to Warsaw to prove something, and the girls did just that. They really showed what they are made of. They showed how tough they are. Every girl dropped time from Thursday. Every girl or relay maintained or improved their position.
“I was really proud of all the girls. They swam like champions [Saturday].”

She improved her standing by moving up two positions to 17th. We have all been proud of her efforts this season. [Tuesday] was a great way to close out her season.
